When I look around I am surprised at the amount of fear in people. Each person’s reason for fear may be different, but in the end, the outcome is the same. Fear paralyzes; it has the ability to stop people from going forward, from pursuing their destiny.
Few weeks ago I had to face a pretty big mountain; it felt as though I was at the edge of a cliff, and I had to jump to reach the other side.
The day finally came when I would have to jump; from one side the devil kept reminding me of my lack, of my weakness, my unpreparedness; but each time fear would try to creep into my mind like a sly snake, I would remind myself one truth: “I will not be aware of my lack but I will be aware of Jesus with me”
The day came and the day went, and now I stand on the other side of the cliff, and let me tell you, it had nothing to do with me, I was able to jump only and only because I knew He would always catch me.
Then I realized that is the root of most fears, we fear no one is there to catch us if we go forward and jump.
Fear takes over when we falsely believe that the outcome depends on us; on how well we do; on our strength and ability, but let me tell you one thing today, it’s never been about us! It’s always about Him. We are who we are not because of our abilities but because of His grace.
Let me give you a small example, there is a playground in front of our church, and every Sunday you will find the two little girls of our church, aged 3&5 playing on the monkey bars. One week after service I joined them there and learned an important lesson.
Let me help you imagine it; there are four ladders that come together to a fireman’s post. The task is simple enough; the kids climb the ladder and then slide down the fireman’s post.
So I helped the older one, Abigail, climb up and slide down. Next was younger Natalya’s turn, I helped her climb up, and then she did something that surprised me, instead of sliding down the post, she just jumped! I caught her and as soon as I put her down, she was scrambling back to climb the ladder again! Now, that’s a brave girl!
But I thought to myself, how does a three year old not have the fear to jump from a height of 6 feet? Actually the answer is simple: every week her daddy is there to catch her. She knows in her heart, her dad loves her and is there to watch over her, to catch her and to protect her.
Isn’t this the truth that we all need to know? Our Daddy in heaven is there to catch us!
Don’t let fear hold you back any longer. Don’t let fear paralyze you from pursuing your destiny!
Just go for it. Just jump!
And let me tell you, when little Natalya jumped, there was not an ounce of fear on her face but it was just joy!
No wonder Jesus keeps reminding us: ‘be childlike’, only then will we keep our rationalizing minds out of the way and just jump!
Before we adults ever even think to jump, we calculate.
We calculate the probabilities, we calculate our ability, we calculate just about everything except the fact that He’s promised us:
“The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (Deuteronomy 31:8)
So today enjoy where you are, God has a future for you and He will make sure you reach there; what we have to do is simple: just trust Him.
Today let’s put our confidence on our heavenly Father who will always catch us when we jump.
He goes before you, He makes a path for you, and He will carry you through!
Has this post blessed you? Tell me your thoughts, I love to hear from you!
