The Secret Behind True Strength

The Secret Behind True Strength

I moved half way across the world at the age of 19, and learned to do just about everything on my own. In living alone, in travelling alone, in doing it all alone I had become strong in my own strength. I was confident I could do anything set before me, I could handle anything; alone. I had become what the world tells us to be, independent and strong. And I thought that was a good thing. But today I realised God does not want me strong in myself, He wants me to be strong with His strength.                                                                        Sometimes, or more accurately most times, we have no idea how God is moulding us daily. We are unaware of it, that is until we retrospect. That’s what happened to me as I travelled the trans-Atlantic route that I had travelled so many times before, I realised I had changed. I was no longer the girl who tells the world, bring it on, I can handle anything, but I found myself telling God, I cannot go unless Your presence goes before me.                                                         And I thought of Moses, the first time he left Egypt, he left in his own strength. But the second time he left, he told God, I will not go alone unless Your presence goes before me. His encounter with God had changed him forever, he realised his own strength was not enough.                                         God has to strip us of our independence to truly walk with Him, dependent on Him.                                                                                                            I can relate this to a marriage, in a marriage, two independent people come together, but only when they are stripped of their independence can they truly be dependent on each other; and can they learn to function as one. We are created to function with God as one.We are created to be dependent people. Dependent on each other and dependent on God.                      I have been happily married since the past two years. And since the past two years God has been refining me, like only He can.                                                    With marriage the world around me changed, it was a new city, a language I could not understand, and a way of life that was very foreign to me. Simple things I could do on my own earlier, became challenging. I couldn’t drive...

A Student for Life

A Student for Life

Recently my bank sent me a gentle reminder telling me in short: sorry Lady you’re 27 this year and why do you still have a student account?                                                                                                                                                                        And so I had to rush to the bank and change my account before they freeze it. I wish I could have  reasoned with them and told them I plan to be a student all my life, but I was pretty sure my argument wouldn’t win against policies.                                                                                                                  That’s when I got thinking. The world gives us a time frame of when it is acceptable to be a student. There is an accepted age, after which the fact you are still studying is more than a bit unusual. But I disagree, I plan to be a student all my life.                                                                                                    And now I don’t mean just to attach some degrees behind my name, but I mean I desire to always have a heart that is willing to learn. A heart that is mouldable and pliable in my Father’s hands. A heart that that is willing to sit at the feet of Jesus and learn and learn. A heart that will not get puffed up in knowledge but one that is willing to learn from others. A heart that will live life not with the attitude of knowing it all, but with the attitude to always learn. To always be a student.                                                                                                     Is it time we change our attitude? Have we grown up so much that we are unwilling to be taught? Let’s always having a learning heart. The more we open up our hearts to receive, the more we will receive.                                            “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding;” Proverbs 2:6 (ESV)                                ...

The Comfort of Here

The Comfort of Here

Have you gotten to a place where the place you are is just very comfortable?  No I’m not telling you that comfort is wrong. I’m telling you don’t let your comfort keep you from where God wants you to go! Most times God has a place for us that we are still yet to reach. A place which requires us getting a little uncomfortable to finally get up and go. God might be showing you a new city, a new job, a new home. But are we looking around at where we are and getting comfortable or are we ready to stand up and walk to our destiny? Oh if we learn to keep our spiritual eyes open! In Numbers Chapter 32, we read that the tribes of Reuben and Gad looked around with their physical eyes. They saw a land that was comfortable for them, a land perfect for their cattle and family. The only problem was they hadn’t reached the promised land which God was still leading them to. God never forces His will on us, and we see the same here. In the end the tribes of Reuben and Gad never crossed over the Jordan to the promised land. Their comfort kept them where they willed, not where God willed.  It’s a scary place to live anywhere but the will of God. Being content is one thing, but being content when God has so much more planned for you is just laziness! Today look around you, are you where you are because of comfort or ease? Get up right now and go to where God has willed you to be! Sometimes it is fear or intimidation that is keeping you from where God wants you to be. Know one thing, that God has already equipped you to do all that He has willed (Hebrews 13:20-21 ESV). You are able child of God, for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world (1John 4:4). Don’t let intimidation and fear keep you from where you are supposed to be. Stand up straight, square your shoulders, keep your head up high and march on for the King of heaven and earth is with you! He will lead you and guide you and He will never forsake you! Today on be diligent, persistent, and determined to reach your promised land! God bless you, praying this post has blessed you and pushed you to your destiny! Tell me your thoughts, love to hear from...

What I Learned From My Dog

What I Learned From My Dog

I’ve never owned a dog growing up, but after I got married, I got a husband and a doggy came along as a bonus. So the past year and a half it’s been fun learning my dog, what each look means, and what each bark and whine means.  But there’s one special thing about my dog that I personally want to learn from her, and that is her persistence. She’s taught me first hand what persistence actually means. Just today I sat on the coach to eat a piece of cake, and there she came. She sat and stared, and stared, and stared some more. I knew the goal on her mind or should I say stomach, it was there on my plate. I turned to the left, she turned to the left, I turned to the right, she turned to the right. Now I think you understood what it means to be persistent. She didn’t give up until I gave in. And of course I gave in, trust me no one can sit and eat peacefully with an audience. My point is simple; I think we all need this persistence in our lives. Sometimes we so easily give up what we had once desired for and hoped for. When the going gets tough, we sometimes pack up our bags and head the other way deciding maybe God has something else for us. But child of God, today can we learn to be persistent with the dreams and desires God has placed in us. Can we learn to pursue our promised land even if staying where we are feels more comfortable? It’s not always going to be easy and its not always going to be hard, but in the end our persistence will pay off; we’ll see the cake and eat it too. Today child of God, I want to remind you to be persistent through out the journey. Don’t give up your dreams and desires so easily. Press on. Press on towards the Promised Land. “Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it” Numbers 13:30b Praying this post has blessed you and rekindled your desire for your promised land. Tell me your thoughts, love to hear from...

The only moment when Zero is a Hero!

The only moment when Zero is a Hero!

All our preaching and teaching will mean nothing if we do not allow God to help us overcome in every weak moment of our lives. Let’s see how we can allow God to live big in and through us! Some of you reading this are going to receive a mighty breakthrough in the understanding this key revelation in Jesus’ name! Amen! God said to Gideon, “The people with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel boast over Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’” Judges 7:2 ESV We see God does not want to encourage the arm of self deliverance or dependance on self efforts, lest pride sweep into our hearts. God literally commanded Gideon’s army to reduce from 32,000 to 300; not just that, God gave them the most foolish weapons to win their battle. Each of these weapons show us a unique role, each one of us should practise to allow God to deal with us personally. This is how God did it, He commanded Gideon’s army to break the empty jars, lift up the fiery torch and blow the trumpet. The sound of breaking jars, the glowing of the fiery torches and the sound of the trumpets put such fear in the hearts of the Midianites that they ended up killing each other. Israel didn’t even have to fight or use their swords because God defeated the enemy and got all the glory. No flesh was glorified in the presence of the Master. Let us understand the symbolic significance of Gideon’s weapons which God had commanded: 1. Empty Jars – This is symbolic of us when we have emptied ourselves. When that “I” factor is gone and when you are reduced to nothing – A zero, you are an empty vessel for the King to fill His choice wine; and then when you break yourself before God, He, the Lord almighty – Jesus Christ will manifest in and through our lives. 2. Burning Torch – When God breaks through our flesh, when we get away from the way of the flesh, the fire of the Holy Spirit begins to burn in and through us. 3. Trumpet – When we lift up your voices in total dependence on the Lord and praise Him. The enemy knows we have already received our victory in believing The Lord! When we become nothing, we are like those empty jars; and when we are broken on the inside before God, the fire of the Holy Spirit will begin to burn to bring the victory of Jesus Christ. “It’s not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord of hosts” (Zechariah 4:6 KJV). I pray that the Lord Jesus Christ will increase and we will choose to decrease. Lets empty ourselves today to see that through our broken lives the Fire of the Holy Spirit will burn bright and the praise of Calvary’s victory will begin to blow the wind of God over our enemies in Jesus name! Do comment on what you think we must do for God to increase in our...

Prophecy for the Year 2013

Welcome to 2013. As you are entering this year of Jubilee, the year of celebration, get ready to enter your Call, your Promise and the Power God has anointed you with. This is the year to shift into “The All of God!” We have been chosen by the God of the Universe, the Lord Most High, to make His Name known on the earth and to turn the hearts of the people back to their God. God chose us and has anointed us to fulfil His special purpose on earth. All that we ever need: All wisdom, knowledge, ability, strength and courage have already been given to us by God; and it’s available for us to step into our Call. Receive that Promise and Power from the most High. The Bible says God “has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises..” (2 Peter 1:3,4). Some of you have not tapped into your purpose in 2012, but this is the year to enter into it. Years ago God may have placed a dream, a desire in your heart for ministry, you knew you were God’s anointed! But now when you look into your life, it’s not yet where it should be. Well, this year, its time to turn the tables and shift into the greater things of God! Let nothing stop you from believing your God given authority and destiny. Go for it this 2013 in Jesus’ name. Prophecy for 2013: This is what God has revealed regarding the new year! 1. God is about to usher a prophetic generation marked with His power on earth! 2. There will be a quick and swift work of the Holy Spirit in our families. 3. God will speak over lives again. He is about to speak over us so get ready to hear and do exactly what He tells! 3. Time to transition from shame to glory, sickness to health, mediocrity to excellence, and time for exposure and expansion. 4. World Politics will shift to deception and fight for positions will begin across nations. 5. Radical trading will happen which will disrupt the economy but resulting in a wealth transfer for the church through media and arts. The Church will conquer the mountain of media. 6. Year of liberation and freedom for many, captives will be set free, prisoners of war will be released. 7. Spirit of prophesy will return to The Church. 8. Divine marriages will take place. It’s time to make your calling and election sure. Remember, if the devil is trying to come hard against you, rejoice! Because he knows you have something that’s making him nervous and insecure in 2013. Don’t let anyone steal your joy, for greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. Finally, in everything, enquire of the Lord and do not move until you receive instructions from the Lord. This new year make an appointment to enquire from the Lord Jesus daily! We wish you a God ordained 2013. Let us make a decision that enquiring from the Lord will be our top most priority this year. Tell us what...

How to be a Weather Changer

How to be a Weather Changer

Everyday we are exposed to so many things around us which can influence us either in a good way or in an evil way. One quality of a strong child of God is that they don’t allow themselves to be influenced by the evil outside, but rather they influence the outside world with the good they carry, they allow the Holy Spirit inside them to manifest outside. Think about this scripture, “Greater is He that’s in me than he that is in the world,” (1John 4:4)  which means we should project the greater one – God in us to effect the world outside us! We are called to be revivalists and carriers of God! We all find ourselves in environments that can be at times more than challenging, but  did you know we have the power to influence the atmosphere we live in and not get tormented by the oppression in the air! The Word of God calls satan the prince of the power of the air, and he works in the sons of disobedience. (Ephesians 2:2) So what should we, the sons of obedience, who walk with our heavenly Father do? We can be weather changers! We can talk to our atmosphere! Speak and declare change and transform it by disturbing the prince of the air and vandalise his territory by terrorising the devil and breaking his airwaves! Elijah is one man who changed the climate he lived in! He spoke what he wanted into existence; he was a weather changer, he prayed rain back into drought. In the way we live, our atmosphere around us will respond. For a land to prosper, good weather is required, for everything from cultivation of crops and fruit, is dependent on the weather. Sometimes the atmosphere in our office, college, and home can be very challenging; in times like these we need to exercise our God given authority to bring a change. Take this simple example, we need to be like the tea bag which changes the hot water around it, instead of the egg which gets changed by the hot water! How can we do this? 1. Speak to your atmosphere only what you want to see manifest 2. You can change the outside only if you carry something different inside – practise carrying and honouring the Holy Spirit in everything you do 3. Create an atmosphere in you before you speak it out. The world that is inside of you is the world that you will manifest outside of you! 4. You can build your inner world by praise & worship, Word & prayer 5. Praise and worship enables us to speak God into our atmosphere by direct proclamation and declaration of God’s Word in majesty, reminding the devil again and again the truth of God that prevails over our lives and the victory that was won on the cross! 6. Consuming the Word does a deep work of cleansing, sanctifying and restoring of what is within 7. Prayer helps us to stay more closer and connected to God You can start doing this even this hour! Read your bible regularly, pray and then begin to declare Jesus over your atmosphere and surroundings and see your mountains move in Jesus’ mighty name! How have you in the past changed the...

Jumping Over Cockroaches

Jumping Over Cockroaches

It was past midnight when a friend and I had to go into the kitchen of the campsite where we were having a three-day conference. I confidently put the lights on and walked across the kitchen to the counter where I had left the box of our midnight stock of coffee and tea. I reached the counter, got the box in my arms, turned around, and that’s when my friend still standing at the door looked at me and asked: ” Aren’t you scared of cockroaches?” as I was thinking what a random question to ask, my eyes looked down, and what do you know, the kitchen floor was swarming with gigantic enormous cockroaches. I shuddered to even think that I had just walked across that same floor in my bare feet! (The campsite had a unique rule: no shoes inside!) Now, box in my arms, on my return trip, I jumped over the cockroaches till I reached the door again, safely out of any further danger of creepy crawly insects touching me. That’s when it hit me; I was so glad that I didn’t pay attention to the cockroaches at the start of my journey, before I had got the box of goodies in my arms. Why? Well, I know if I had given my attention to the cockroaches, I would have either, A. taken double the time to get across the kitchen or B. chickened out of even attempting it. And this is exactly what happens in life. We all have goals ahead of us. Goals and dreams we need to accomplish in our lives. But along the way the devil sends these ‘cockroaches’ to distract us. The ‘cockroaches’ can come in many forms, as insecurities, fears, rumours, peer pressure, anything and everything to take our focus off the prize. The devil wants to distract us from the path ahead, and he will use any method. Don’t be distracted by the things around you, no matter how much they scream for attention. Keep your eyes focused on the prize ahead and push on! Put the blinders on and don’t look to the right or to the left! You have a purpose in life! Don’t be distracted from it! “Forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil 3: 13-14) PRAY: Lord, make us super focused like Elijah, to tuck in our cloaks and run towards the goal! (1 Kings 18:46) God bless you as you reach ahead!! Were you blessed by this post? Tell me what you think, I love to hear from...

The Secret Behind My Amazing Cooking!

The Secret Behind My Amazing Cooking!

It’s been more than a year since I began my experiments in the kitchen, but I want to share a story from the beginning of this culinary journey of mine. So there I was cooking for one of the very first times, I had followed all the directions my mom had told me, and finally it was time for the taste test, in great expectation I took a spoonful into my mouth but disappointment hit, there was no taste! I couldn’t understand what went wrong, I thought I had followed all the directions, and then I remembered, I had forgotten one important ingredient: salt! And that’s all it took! With a little salt the flavor that seemed to be missing came back in an instant. Honestly, I never realized till that day, how important salt really is. And guess what? That’s exactly what Jesus calls us: the salt of the earth! Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavours of this earth (Matthew 5:13 MSG) But ever wondered why Jesus compared us to salt and not to something like, say, gold?  Let me try and explain just how beautiful this “common salt” really is. There are two main properties or functions of salt: Flavouring Preservative 1. Flavouring Hope my little story illustrated this for you. But ask any cook; there is no other ingredient like it. Salt is a flavour enhancer; it helps make anything and everything better. 2. Preservative Many vegetables are preserved or ‘pickled’ using salt. For all those who still remember their science, salt basically sucks out all the water out of the vegetables through osmosis. But what’s the purpose of that? Well, in removing all the water, we remove the environment for any bacteria to grow. Now isn’t that amazing? The salt prevents the growth of bacteria and thus prevents decay. These tiny crystals of salt may appear so insignificant, but what a purpose it has! This is the same with our lives.  Do you realize how important you are child of God?  There are times we may feel small or insignificant; be it in our families, our colleges, our work place, or even in our church. Times when our purpose in God’s master plan is not so clear. These are the times we have to remind ourselves, Jesus has called us to be the salt of this earth. We are created to bring out the God-flavour of the earth.  We exist to enhance everything and everyone around us. We are created to be the preservative of this earth. Our presence and our prayers preserve and protect everything around us. What an important task our Father has given us. We do not exist merely for ourselves. We exist to be the salt and light of this earth.Your life is not just for you! Your life has an eternal impact! So remember child of God, your very existence is to enhance and preserve those around you! We are called to build up others and not break them down. We are called to bring life and stop the decay. From this day on be the destiny promoter God has called you to be! Bless the world around you and be the light in this world!  Let your light so shine...

He’s Got Your Back!

He’s Got Your Back!

One of my pet peeves is people butting in line, and unfortunately it’s pretty common. This Sunday we took our niece out for the day; so there we are, we’ve bought our tickets for the “Dragon ride” but what do you know, a man and his daughter nicely cut through the line and make it before us. I was irritated seeing them act so selfish, and it ended up they took the last seats on the ride so we had to wait for the next turn. But here’s the good part, us being last meant we were the first for the next turn, so we got the best seats in the house, the front seats! So moral of the story is simple: there are always people doing all that they can to try and snatch up the best. You’ll find them everywhere. They care about themselves and themselves. But in the end, we have a Father in heaven that makes sure that in everything that all things work together for the good for those who love God. (Romans 8:28) So the next time you find such a character, hold on to your peace; people may try their best to hoard up all they can for themselves, but be sure of this: our Father in heaven is our defender and our shield! He takes care of us better than we can! He’s got your...
